We will explore a fairy-tale Virussaare forest, rich in different plant species, and its diverse nature, there is an assumed wall, marking the location of the probable ancient settlement (locals called it “serpent’s backwater”), famous for numerous interesting legends. Perhaps, there is no other swamp island in Estonia, except Virussaare, equally recognized for having a peculiar legendary background. In the course of trekking adventure, we will retell you local legends, speak about the history of ancient Estonians, the mythology and traditions. The menu of lunch break in Virussaare includes hot tea boiled from plants grown in the Estonian countryside, freshly baked scones, and chocolate for dessert. Virussaare surroundings offer picturesque views to Kõima bog from everywhere. On the way back there is a possibility to pick up tasty Virussaare cranberries (it is a special sort of bigger-sized berries that taste like pear). On top of that, depending on the season, we will learn to know different plants: meadow, bog, swamp and forest plants. In the evening, after hiking, we visit an idyllic adjacent old village Pikavere, lined with the lime-stone fences (the village once got a title of the “most beautiful village of the year”). There is an opportunity to purchase local ecological produce and have supper for additional pay. Choice of soups: beetroot soup, cabbage soup, peasant’s soup, solyanka, meat ball soup, etc. The main course: stewed beef (Jamie Oliver’s), cutlet, meat loaf, etc. Organic beef. Drinks: milk or fruit-drink. Dessert: curd cream, home-made ice-cream, cake. Hikers who would like to order supper should inform 3 days before day of tour, specifying their menu choice. Apart from supper, Finnish sauna is available, too in neighbouring Pereküla village.

Recommended maximum amount of participators in hiking trip – 8-12 persons

Price per person – 43 euros. Price includes guide service (2 guides), hot tea (boiled from plants grown in the Estonian countryside) and singing ancient Estonian metre songs with harp accompaniment. In addition it includes pay for use of straw shoes. Hiking tours last around 8 hours, meal, drink and stops for break included.
