Name of hiking trip: KASUKAMÄE TRIP
Rough length of hiking trip: 8 km
Location: Kasukamägi swamp island, Linnuraba Nature Reserve, Kelba village, Rapla parish, Rapla county

We will visit fairy-tale-like forest meadows in Kasukamägi and experience the peace and separation from the world, admire stunning untouched wild nature. You can rest your eyes here and feel pleasure and sense of well-being as the place is far from the civilisation. We will also visit some other swamp islands like Vanamardi mägi, Kalamägi, Mõtusemägi, Vihukivimägi, Käokatku mägi and a few more, smaller ones. Each island is peculiar and has its own legends to retell. The peculiarities are noticeable right away  – Mõtusemägi has got a big thick pine-tree where a wood grouse loves to settle, wild boars live in Vihukivimägi – the island which is also full of rocks, Vanamardi mägi is simply a beautiful place where a fairy-tale-like forest meadows are found, in its north-eastern corner there is also a big boulder, at the Käokatku mägi a hiker will, first of all, pay attention to the unusual natural order of the landscape with dominating open forest meadows, from spring to mid-summer you can hear the voice of cuckoo, and there is a stone for sacrifice in the forest. If you are able to stop, concentrate and listen to the nature, the island will tell you his story itself. The local landscape of Vanamardi mägi is especially unique due to the lowlands spruce forest located on the south-east, where from the late spring till early summer you can admire a true fairy-tale-like view – fluffy white Eriophorum vaginatum among the snow-white spruces. The wealth of natural white colour is divine and unearthly. Apart from the white of Eriophorum vaginatum and the snow-white spruces, the palette is enriched with white blossoms of bean trefoil, cowberry and cuckoo flowers. No words can describe all the splendour – one should see it with his own eyes. While hiking in the forest and the bog we will see various wood and bog plants. The menu of lunch break in Kasukamägi includes hot tea boiled from plants grown in the Estonian countryside, freshly baked scones, and chocolate for dessert. The way back runs along a path through a man-made Eest-Võhma swamp island, where there used to be a farmstead named Võhma, and where today only the ruins and the agelong trees have survived, then further via Eest-Võhma bog and the lowland until we reach the point of our destination, or the start and the finish of our journey.  At the end of hiking day you can order a rich supper from organic products which is served in Lau village. Supper and a choice of dishes should be pre-ordered 3 days before. In addition, there is an opportunity to go to a smoke sauna and stay in the village for a night. An archaic looking smoke sauna is located near an idyllically peaceful pond, reflecting back the look, feel and smell of how people lived in the olden days. It plays the main role in time traveling (Ajamatkad), in bringing us back to our past.
